San
Antonio offers the charm of a small southern town with the hustle and bustle of
a large modern metropolis. The city is much more than simply the home of the
Alamo, and offers a broad range of things to see and do. For instance, a tour of
downtown will uncover centuries of history. La Villita was one of the site's
original settlements, and was comprised of Spanish soldiers and their families.
The Spanish Governor’s Palace was the seat of the government when San Antonio
was the capital of the Spanish Province of Texas. And Market Square is the
largest Mexican Market outside of Mexico. Locals and visitors alike also enjoy
the city’s contemporary amenities, especially the Paseo del Rio, which is much
like a quiet park along some stretches, and a bustling pedestrian area in other
sections, complete with European-style sidewalk cafes, boutiques, galleries,
nightclubs and more. There's plenty to do here for all budgets and agendas.
