Since it’s founding in
1847, Salt Lake City has grown from a small vanguard
village of Mormon pioneers, into a major American metropolis. For instance, the
city played host to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. And while the downtown area
offers all the excitement of a modern metropolis, the surrounding area is

true for winter sports, as nine major ski resorts, three cross country ski areas
and the nation’s only recreational ski jumping complex are less than an
hour’s drive from the city.
